CinemaCon has named Elizabeth Banks as the recipient of the Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year Award for her work on the comedy sequel Pitch Perfect 2. Banks made her feature film directorial debut with the 2015 sequel to the 2012 blockbuster hit, and the National Association of Theatre Owners will be recognizing Banks for her first job behind the camera during CinemaCon’s Big Screen Achievement Awards on April 23, 2015 at Caesars Palace in Vegas.

“One of Hollywood’s most versatile actresses and a force to be reckoned with behind the scenes at Brownstone Productions, Elizabeth Banks draws some of her cast’s finest performances to date as she helms Pitch Perfect 2,” said Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. “Elizabeth is already a well-deserving CinemaCon honoree for her talents as a performer, and we could not be more excited to honor her as the ‘CinemaCon Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year’ as she makes the transition behind the camera to direct her first feature.’”

Pitch Perfect 2 opens in theaters on May 15, 2015. In addition to directing the sequel, Banks reprises her role as Gail from the first film. The cast also includes Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Skylar Astin, Adam DeVine, Katey Sagal, Anna Camp, Ben Platt, Alexis Knapp, Hana Mae Lee, Joh Hodgman, Jason Jones, Joe Lo Truglio, Reggie Watts, and John Michael Higgins.
