In recognition of James Gandolfini’s years of support, the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) has named a Carry Forward Award in his honor. Per the official announcement, the “James Gandolfini Award recognizes his spirit, respect, and support for wounded service members by honoring an individual in the public eye who exemplifies the values of WWP just as he did.”

The recipient of this year’s award will be announced on October 10, 2013.

The Wounded Warriors Project says The Sopranos star was a “passionate advocate” of their organization. “We were deeply saddened at his unexpected passing in June, and take pride in honoring him as the namesake of our award to recognize outstanding character in service to warriors and families,” stated Steve Nardizzi, executive director of Wounded Warrior Project. “What better way to keep his spirit alive than remembering him each year through this award. For his support of those military men and women coming home, and for his immeasurable contributions to WWP behind the scenes, we will remain forever grateful.”

Gandolfini was so supportive of the men and women who served in the military that he executive produced two documentaries that allowed service members a chance to tell their stories.
