Robin Roberts has had to say good-bye to her Good Morning America cohorts in order to prepare for a bone marrow transplant, however none of her GMA friends or viewers will forget her while she’s gone. And GMA viewers and Roberts fans can purchase a “Prayer for Protection” wristband in support of the popular television personality with 100% of the proceeds from the bracelets benefiting Be The Match®. The wristbands are $5 for 5 bands and can be found at ShopBeTheMatch.org. Be The Match helps patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other diseases who need a marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant and has the world’s largest listing of potential marrow donors and donated cord blood units in the world.

The colorful bracelets each have Roberts’ initials along with the Prayer for Protection Roberts’ mother taught her: “Light, Love, Power, Presence.” Roberts’ friends designed the wristband following her diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).

Roberts went public with her diagnosis on June 11, 2012 and revealed her best hope for a cure is a bone marrow transplant from her sister, Sally-Ann.

“Since my diagnosis, I’ve been focusing on the fight, not the fright,” Roberts said. “I’m a thriver, not a survivor, and I hope everyone out there wears this bracelet in honor of the countless other thrivers around the world.”

“Robin is an example to everyone battling a life-threatening disease,” said Jeffrey W. Chell, M.D., chief executive officer of the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP). “Robin is fighting her disease with grace, while helping raise awareness for Be The Match and the critical need for more bone marrow donors.”
