The red leather motorcycle jacket Ryan Gosling wore in the independent dramatic movie The Place Beyond the Pines is going up for auction. Proceeds from the sale of the jacket will go to benefit Variety – The Children’s Charity of Southern California.

The auction opens online on March 29, 2013 at Profiles in History, the same day as The Place Beyond the Pines begins its theatrical run. The jacket is currently on display at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood and will remain there through April 5th. The auction ends on April 8th.

Commenting on the auction, Elizabeth O’Neil, Executive Director of Variety – The Children’s Charity of Southern California, stated: “Our charity is proud to continue its longstanding association with Focus Features, which has allowed movie fans to own pieces of cinema history from so many fine films while contributing greatly appreciated extra funds to children in need.”

Details on the Jacket:

“The jacket is a Firstgear red leather motorcycle jacket with snap pockets at the front, black corduroy at the collar, zipper vents at both front and back with black leather in the vent, elastic at both cuffs and bottom, and zips to close. The lining from the auction item has been removed because of wear from extensive location filming of sequences in which Luke rides on his motorcycle.”

The Plot of The Place Beyond the Pines:

The highly anticipated new drama from director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) powerfully explores the consequences of motorcycle rider Luke’s (Ryan Gosling) fateful decision to commit a crime to support his child. The incident renders him targeted by policeman Avery (Bradley Cooper), and the two men become locked on a tense collision course which will have a devastating impact on both of their families in the years following.
