The first trailer has arrived for the dramatic film Pawn Sacrifice based on the life of legendary chess master Bobby Fischer, with this first look at the film showing Fischer as a child prodigy who grows up to be a world-renowned chess player battling mental illness. Tobey Maguire stars as Bobby Fischer with Liev Schreiber playing Boris Spassky, Soviet chess master and Bobby Fischer’s nemesis. The cast also includes Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg, Lily Rabe, and Robin Weigert.


Pawn Sacrifice directed by Edward Zwick opens in theaters on September 18, 2015.

The Plot:

In a gripping true story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Empire. Pawn Sacrifice chronicles Fischer’s terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the imagination of the world.
