The Weinstein Company’s released a new clip from Southpaw, the dramatic boxing film directed by Training Day‘s Antoine Fuqua. The new clip features Maureen Hope (Rachel McAdams) begging her husband, Billy (Jake Gyllenhaal), to stop boxing before he becomes punch-drunk from too many hits to the head.

Written by Sons of Anarchy‘s Kurt Sutter and The Mechanic‘s Richard Wenk, Southpaw also features Oona Laurence, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, and Forest Whitaker.

Southpaw will open in theaters on July 24, 2015.

The Plot:

Southpaw tells the riveting story of Billy “The Great” Hope, reigning Junior Middleweight Boxing Champion of the World (Gyllenhaal). Billy Hope seemingly has it all with an impressive career, a beautiful and loving wife (McAdams), an adorable daughter (Laurence) and a lavish lifestyle. When tragedy strikes and his lifelong manager and friend (Jackson) leaves him behind, Hope hits rock bottom and turns to an unlikely savior at a run-down local gym: Tick Willis (Whitaker), a retired fighter and trainer to the city’s toughest amateur boxers.

With his future riding on Tick’s guidance and tenacity, Billy enters the hardest battle of his life as he struggles with redemption and to win back the trust of those he loves.
