Director Justin Lin just confirmed the official title of the new Star Trek film along with sharing a photo from the set via Twitter. Currently shooting, the new Star Trek is now officially titled Star Trek Beyond. Returning cast members include Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Zachary Quinto, with Idris Elba joining the cast as the main villain.
Lin is taking over the franchise from J.J. Abrams who moved on to direct the new Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but remains involved as a producer. Lin’s directing credits include The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6.
Paramount Pictures is aiming for a July 8, 2016 theatrical release of Star Trek Beyond.
