Visual Effects Oscar Race Narrows to 10 Films

10 movies are still in the running in the 2014 Academy Awards’ Visual Effects category. Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee narrowed the field to 10, and the next step is for all members of the visual effects branch to view 10 minute clips from these 10 films in order to determine the five that will be nominated.
 
Nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 5:30am PT.
 
The 10 Remaining Contenders:
 
Elysium
Gravity
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Iron Man 3
The Lone Ranger
Oblivion
Pacific Rim
Star Trek Into Darkness
Thor: The Dark World
World War Z

 
The 86th Academy Awards will take place on March 2, 2014 at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center®.
