Annette Bening Joins American Crime Story

FX announced four-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening has signed on to Katrina: American Crime Story. Bening will play Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco in season two of the American Crime Story limited series from executive producers Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson. Blanco was serving as governor during the devastating Hurricane Katrina which struck the Gulf Coast of the United States on August 29, 2005.


Season one of American Crime Story focused on O.J. Simpson’s murder trial. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story earned 22 Emmy nominations, winning nine Emmys including Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie (Courtney B. Vance), and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie (Sarah Paulson). The series also won two Golden Globes and four Critics’ Choice Awards. American Crime Story‘s first season ensemble included Paulson, Vance, Sterling K. Brown, John Travolta, Cuba Gooding Jr, David Schwimmer, Kenneth Choi, and Bruce Greenwood.

Annette Bening’s credits include Rules Don’t Apply, 20th Century Women, Ruby Sparks, Danny Collins, Ginger & Rosa, The American President, and The Women. Bening earned Best Actress Oscar nominations for her performances in American Beauty, The Kids Are All Right, and Being Julia. She was also nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for The Grifters.
