Stephen Colbert Hosts a Tolkien-Themed Week

Tolkien fanatic Stephen Colbert will be letting loose his inner Hobbit geek with a full week of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey madness on The Colbert Report. The Tolkien-themed week of December 3 through December 6, 2012 will feature guest appearances by Sir Ian McKellen (‘Gandalf’), Martin Freeman (‘Bilbo’), Andy Serkis (‘Gollum’), and filmmaker Peter Jackson.

The first film of The Hobbit trilogy hits theaters on December 14th.

Announcing the special Tolkien week, Colbert exclaimed: “Elen sila lumenn’ omentielvo… I mean that sincerely.”

Colbert is a huge Hobbit fan and will even have a cameo in one of the upcoming films. And in past episodes of his show, he’s proven his knowledge and love of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work by “sparring with James Franco on The Lord of the Rings knowledge, digressing with Elijah Wood during his Happy Feet Two promotion appearance by discussing his Lord of the Rings roles and comparing swords, or analyzing John McCain’s Lord of the Rings debt crisis analogy in Congress.”
