Darrell Hammond is returning to NBC’s Saturday Night Live for the show’s 40th season. The former SNL player will be taking on a new role as the announcer following the death of the show’s long-time announcer Don Pardo.

Hammond’s first episode as announcer will be on the 40th season premiere on September 27, 2014. Chris Pratt’s scheduled to host that show with Ariana Grande signed up as the musical guest.

Hammond was a member of the SNL cast for 14 seasons and holds the record for the longest stint as a cast member in the show’s history.

In addition to SNL, Hammond’s credits include Scary Movie 5 and the TV series Are We There Yet? and Damages.
