Like there was ever any doubt…FX has confirmed Fargo will return for a second season, and that writer/executive producer Noah Hawley will be taking Fargo fans back in time, setting the second season in Sioux Falls in 1979. Season two will center on a 33-year-old Lou Solverson (played in the first season by Keith Carradine) who, when we pick up his story, is recently back from Vietnam and is employed as a state cop.

Hawley provided a few details on season two of Fargo while at the Television Critics Association press event in Los Angeles, revealing that this upcoming season will introduce Molly’s mother. Season two will consist of 10 episodes and include new characters working on a new ‘true crime’.

“We could not be more proud of Fargo,” said John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks & FX Productions. “Noah’s audacious, bordering on hubristic riff on my favorite Coen brothers film earned 18 Emmy nominations – the most for a single program in our history. Fargo was nothing short of breathtaking and we look forward to the next installment.”

Fargo‘s 18 Emmy nominations include nominations in the Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Lead Actor (Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman), and Outstanding Supporting Actress (Allison Tolman) categories.
