One of the most entertaining singer/songwriters/occasional actors will be taking on hosting duties on ABC’s Rising Star. Josh Groban, who you should be following on Twitter for daily updates on his life and random thoughts, has signed on to the singing competition, which will premiere on June 22, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT.

Brad Paisley, Kesha, and Ludacris make up the panel of experts who will chime in on each singer’s performance during what ABC claims is a show that will completely reinvent primetime singing competitions. What sets it apart from the pack is that the singers on Rising Star will be judged in real-time by the audience, who will have the final say.

Ken Warwick (American Idol) and Nicolle Yaron (The Voice) are on board as executive producers.

The Details:

During the performances, viewers vote via an App in real-time to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the performer moves on, and the performer can see how the voting is going during the performance, so the feedback is immediate and dramatic.
