English Town Changes Name to Game of Thrones‘ King’s Landing

Kings Langley to Become King's LandingFor a seven day period in February, the historic English village of Kings Langley will transform into Game of Thrones King’s Landing. Kings Langley, located 21 miles northwest of London in the county of Hertfordshire, will be changing its name for a week in support of the release of the third season of Game of Thrones on DVD and Blu-ray.

Working with the HBO production (and paid for by the production company), Kings Langley’s two main streets will be changed in hopes of upping the town’s appeal to tourists.

In an interview with the Hemel Gazette, Borough and parish councillor Alan Anderson explained why the decision was made. “This re-naming is a great opportunity to put Kings Langley and Dacorum on the map,” said Anderson. “You can’t ignore the parallels between Kings Langley’s own rich history and the themes in the show such as battling kings and warring families.”

In the critically acclaimed series based on the bestselling novels by George R.R. Martin, King’s Landing is the capitol of the Seven Kingdoms and is located in Westeros.
