The timing might be a bit too perfect for the start of production on New Line Cinema and Village Roadshow Pictures’ San Andreas, as So California residents are still a little jittery over the recent spat of earthquakes. But the show apparently must go on, and the action thriller about an earthquake along the San Andreas Fault will begin filming in Australia on April 22, 2014. The production will also travel to LA and San Francisco.

Dwayne Johnson heads up a cast that includes Carla Gugino (the two worked together on Race to Witch Mountain), Alexandra Daddario, Archie Panjabi, Art Parkinson, and Hugo Johnstone-Burt. Brad Peyton (Johnson’s director on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) is at the helm and Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing. Carlton Cuse and Chad Hayes & Carey Hayes wrote the screenplay.

The Plot: After the infamous San Andreas Fault finally gives, triggering a magnitude 9 earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Johnson) and his estranged wife make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter.  But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning, and when they think the worst may be over…it’s just getting started.

San Andreas will be shaking things up in theaters beginning Friday, June 5, 2015.
