In case you needed another reason to travel to So Cal for the annual San Diego Film Festival, the SDFF has just announced the addition of Silver Linings Playbook to the festival’s lineup. Directed by David O. Russell, Silver Linings Playbook earned the People’s Choice Award at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and the buzz has been building over its potential to be a player when it comes to the Oscars. The cast of the family drama/comedy/love story includes Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jackie Weaver, Anupam Kher, Chris Tucker, Julia Stiles, and Shea Whigham.

The 11th Annual San Diego Film Festival runs Wednesday, September 26, through Sunday, September 30, 2012.

“The addition of Silver Linings Playbook to our slate once again demonstrates that the San Diego Film Festival is upping the ante in a big way this year,” said Festival Program Director Tonya Mantooth, announcing the film’s addition to the program. “We could not have gotten a hotter movie, and we are excited beyond belief to bring it to San Diego’s discerning movie lovers.”

The Silver Linings Playbook Plot:

Life doesn’t always go according to plan…Pat Solitano (Cooper) has lost everything — his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother (Weaver) and father (De Niro) after spending eight months in a state institution on a plea bargain. Pat is determined to rebuild his life, remain positive and reunite with his wife, despite the challenging circumstances of their separation. All Pat’s parents want is for him to get back on his feet – and to share their family’s obsession with the Philadelphia Eagles football team. When Pat meets Tiffany (Lawrence), a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he’ll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.
