Legendary Pictures first announced a film about King Kong’s origins while at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con and today Legendary’s providing more details on Skull Island. Tom Hiddleston (Thor‘s ‘Loki’) will star in and Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) will direct the action-adventure film which focuses on the events that took place on the island. Max Borenstein penned the script.

Legendary didn’t provide any real details on the project in their announcement other than to say this about what audiences can expect:

“Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”

Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures are aiming for a November 4, 2016 release date of Skull Island.

In addition to his scene-stealing role of Loki in the Thor films, Hiddleston’s credits include Midnight in Paris, Only Lovers Left Alive, War Horse, and the upcoming Guillermo del Toro film Crimson Peak. He’s also preparing to take on the role of Hank Williams Jr in I Saw the Light.
