Charles Michael Davis says the second season of The CW’s The Originals will find Marcel minus some of the freedom he had in season one, and biding his time as he attempts to rebuild his life.

“In the second season, it’s a little bit more of a family drama, like literally with the Mikaelsons and Mikael being back. You’ll see Marcel rebuild his little vampire community. They’ve been exiled across the river,” said Davis during our interview at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. “For Marcel, and I think for the other characters, it’s going to be a lot of more character relationship driven. You’ll really get to see…Like, the way I talked to the writers as an analogy was the first season we approached it like Game of Thrones. And then he told me about the second season and I go, ‘It’s more like Orange is the New Black.’ It’s about the characters and how they interact and what’s going on with them as individuals. I think season two you’re going to see it’s going to be like Emmy nominated Orange is the New Black.”

Davis believes that given the fact it’ll become more character-driven, it’ll be interesting to see how everything plays out and how Marcel evolves. “I think in my previous experience like on Switched at Birth and Grey’s, we really worked [character] triangles,” explained Davis. “I think this one we’re going to find those triangular relationships a little bit more. Maybe it will be like Marcel, Josh, and Elijah. And then on the other end you might see like Elijah, Hayley, and maybe Klaus – or maybe a different character. So you’re really going to get to work through the show through those character triangles.”
