NBC’s Grimm comes to an end with season six episode 13 titled, appropriately, ‘The End.’ Airing on March 31, 2017, the series finale put Grimmsters through a wide range of emotions before delivering its final touching scene. Before I dig into the recap, I’d like to say a huge thank you to the cast, writers, directors, producers, and everyone involved in this amazing series for providing viewers with six incredible seasons.

‘The End’ begins with a shot of the police station floor covered with dead bodies and Nick (David Giuntoli) who has been knocked out. He comes to and sees Wu (Reggie Lee) and Hank (Russell Hornsby), and immediately decides to use the stick. It doesn’t work on Wu or Hank, and Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni) races in to find him kneeling by Hank’s body. He doesn’t know why he’s not dead or why the stick isn’t working. Trubel says since bullets don’t work on the Zerstorer, they have to cut off his head.

Nick calls Adalind (Claire Coffee) and Renard (Sasha Roiz), telling them about the dead officers including Hank and Wu. They can’t believe it, and Nick shares his opinion that maybe the stick kept him alive. He’s upset the stick didn’t revive either Hank or Wu, and Adalind delivers the bad news that the Zerstorer wants Kelly – not just Diana. Nick tells Adalind he’s sending Trubel to help protect her and the kids, and then he’s heading to the spice shop. Trubel doesn’t want to split up but reluctantly does.

Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell), Rosalee (Bree Turner), and Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) continue to look for ways to destroy the Zerstorer. Monroe reads a passage that mentions “strength of one’s blood,” and thinks that might be the Zerstorer’s Achille’s heel. It’s not necessarily for the Zerstorer, but the definition could include him. “Only the strength of one’s blood can overcome the great evil and destroy the destroyer,” reads Monroe. Eve believes it’s talking about blood magic and Rosalee recalls a potion, but it’s time-consuming and difficult to create. The potion requires the blood of three opposing forces: a Grimm, a Wesen, and a Hexenbiest. She’s not sure if it will work, but Monroe thinks it might be just what they need.

They pull together the other ingredients and Nick arrives as they’re mixing it up. They ask for his blood, and he looks devastated. They don’t know about the precinct or about Hank and Wu’s deaths. Rosalee rushes to hug Nick, while Eve and Monroe are stunned. They let him know they need Adalind’s blood, too, but they all have to be mixed together at the same time. Nick grabs an axe before heading off to the cabin.

Adalind and Renard pass the time by talking about their daughter. It’s the one thing they did right together. Adalind asks if she’ll ever be able to take off the ring, and Renard’s surprised she never tried. She tells him she didn’t want to take a chance of harm coming to her kids. Trubel arrives and sees Renard, questioning whether he’s on their side. She has a flashback to Meisner’s death and then heads outside to stand watch.

Rosalee, Monroe, and Eve finish up their part of the portion, deciding they’ll dip a bullet in it since that’s worked before. After Rosalee and Monroe leave, Eve apologizes for not being a Hexenbiest anymore. The Zerstorer arrives before Eve and Nick can leave and she yells for Nick to go because they need his blood. He doesn’t and watches as the Zerstorer forces Eve to stab herself. She dies in his arms as he cries out, “Juliette.” She says, “No regrets,” before slipping away. He tries the stick on her but once again it doesn’t work. The Zerstorer disappears after killing Eve. Nick, enraged, starts smashing up the spice shop.

Rosalee and Monroe arrive at the cabin and tell Adalind what they found. They ask if she’s heard of “Power of Blood,” but she says it’s next to impossible. They work on getting the potion ready anyway and wait for Nick.

Nick isn’t far behind and has a flashback to his first visit to the cabin. Trubel greets him outside the cabin and is the first to learn of Eve’s death. Inside, the remaining members of Team Grimm can’t believe Eve’s dead and that the Zerstorer let Nick live once again. Adalind explains how the potion works and Renard offers to cut them at the same time so that their blood goes into the potion together. He plunges the knife through their hands which are layered on top of each other. The blood enters the potion and begins swirling. It boils and bubbles, and when Rosalee stirs it, it dissolves the spoon.

Diana wakes up and tells them she feels different. Renard tells her they have something that might kill the Zerstorer, and she says the stick tells the Zerstorer where Nick is. Diana says the Zerstorer has been tracking the stick for a “very long time.” Just then the Zerstorer appears in front of Diana. He turns into human form and they walk away holding hands. Renard attacks the Zerstorer and Diana tells her dad not to hurt him since he needs her. The Zerstorer knows Renard will die before letting him have Diana, and Diana smiles. The Zerstorer stabs Renard through the chest with his staff, and Team Grimm is down one more member!

Adalind woges, Trubel protects Kelly, and they toss the potion on the Zerstorer. He’s steaming but doesn’t die. Instead, he’s back to normal strength. Adalind yells at Trubel to run as Monroe attacks the Zerstorer. Nick’s up next and then Adalind. Adalind is the Zerstorer’s next victim, gasping for air and saying, “Save Kelly and Diana,” before dying. Rosalee is the next victim when the Zerstorer’s staff transforms into a snake. It strikes Monroe right after killing Rosalee and they die, falling within inches of each other. Monroe watches Rosalee pass away and then dies as Nick holds his hand. (This is devastating!)

Trubel is inside the cabin and she’s the next one to take on the Zerstorer. She’s strangled and falls to her knees, and then slides to the floor in Nick’s arms. Diana tells the Zerstorer that her brother likes him too, but Nick warns the Zerstorer he will not let him take his son. The Zerstorer, now back in human form, says none of this needs to happen. Nick can’t be killed as long as he has the stick, and the Zerstorer revives Trubel to prove he wants to make a deal. The Zerstorer says he can give them all back in exchange for the stick. Nick agrees and hands over the stick. It glows, as does the staff, as they’re about to reunite. Trubel stops Nick from handing it over, asking why the Zerstorer needs to ask for the stick instead of just taking it. The Zerstorer replies, “You might want to ask your children what to do.”

The Zerstorer walks away and Nick chases after him, trying to give up the stick. Trubel stops him once again, telling him it will be the end of humanity. They argue and then fight. She gets the better of him and runs away with the stick. It starts burning her hand and she drops it, and Nick and Trubel viciously fight again. He’s about to knock her out when he restrains himself, picks up the stick, and heads back to the Zerstorer. As he’s walking the sky lights up and he hears his mother’s voice and then sees her. She tells him he can not betray them, and can’t do what he wants to do. “Don’t give away what you hold,” she commands. His Aunt Marie shows up then, telling him Trubel is right. The stick must be given not taken, and the Zerstorer has taken everyone from him so that he’ll give it over. They warn Nick if he does, the world will know endless pain and suffering. Nick says he wants his friends, Adalind, Diana, his son…he wants everyone back. Nick’s mom and aunt reveal Nick can win this fight with his blood. The strength of his Grimm ancestors can defeat the Zerstorer. The strength he needs – we all need – comes from family.

Nick walks with his mom and aunt by his side toward the Zerstorer. Trubel runs up as Nick holds up the stick and then drops it on the ground. “Come and get it,” he says as the Grimms surround the Zerstorer, kicking, hitting, and stabbing him. It seems to be slowing him down and then Nick picks up the Zerstorer’s staff which has fallen during the fight. When he does, the stick reattaches itself and now Nick is in control. He uses it to stab the Zerstorer through the chest, killing him.

Nick asks his mom and aunt why they came back, and they said they felt he needed them – just like Trubel sensed. Nick’s mom says the stick their Grimm ancestors buried is part of a “much greater power.” She warns him to guard it well and tells him to take good care of her grandson, adding, “I like his name.”

Trubel tells Nick she can’t believe just the two of them took down the Zerstorer. She didn’t see his mom and aunt fighting alongside them and when he glances where they were, they’re gone.

Nick returns to where Adalind lays dead and tossing the staff aside, he picks up her hand and removes the ring. He tosses that aside, too, and Diana walks out and asks where the other Grimms fighting with him went. That’s when Nick realizes he can bring them all back. Just then The Zerstorer’s body dissolves and a portal opens up. Nick is pulled through to the other world.

Once he lands, he discovers he’s back at Rosalee and Monroe’s and Diana is saying, “See, it worked. I got Nick back for you,” just like before. Nick’s amazed they’re all alive, hugging Adalind and then Eve. Nick’s overwhelmed when Rosalee, Hank, and Wu arrive, and he continues to hug people saying, “You’re okay!” Wu doesn’t understand why they wouldn’t be okay. Then Trubel arrives and says, “I’ve been looking for you guys everywhere. I had a feeling something bad was going to happen but I guess it didn’t.”

Diana seems to be the only one who knows what’s going on, and when she tells Eve she’s a Hexenbiest again, Eve says, “Again?” Diana says the Zerstorer didn’t come through again and Nick agrees but the rest of the group is still confused. Diana says the Zerstorer is dead and she’s no longer afraid. Everyone is fine and Nick almost tells them he thought they were all dead. Nick says when he was in the other place, he didn’t know if he’d ever get back. He felt what it was to lose everyone he ever loved, and Monroe admits they thought they’d lost him too.

And now it’s time for one huge group hug, which is interrupted when Monroe notices the staff on the table. He asks where it came from and Nick has no idea what to say. A voice-over informs us Nick had no idea what to tell them.

The voice continues his story and we’re informed it’s now 20 years later. He’s explaining the world will never know how close it came to ending, and that people will believe this story is just a fairy tale or legend. The source of the voice is revealed and it’s Kelly! He’s writing down the account of what took place and he knows it’s all true because it was his father who saved the world. A grown Diana wants him to hurry, grabbing the staff from the weapons closet and telling him their mom and dad are waiting. The triplets are also going to help them kill Wesen. He signs his name to the pages and takes the staff from Diana. Before she leaves the trailer, she uses her powers to make the pages flutter as the book closes to reveal the “G” on the cover.

The scene fades to black and then “The End. Thank You” appears, with thank you repeated in multiple languages.
