Paramount+’s Dutton Ranch episode six opens at Azul’s place. His wife returns home as he puts together a crib. She warns him it’s too early for that and asks how he feels about working for 10-Petal. Azul (J.R. Villarreal) is okay with it, as long as it’s temporary.

(The following is a recap of episode six, “A Cowboy Saint,” and there are spoilers.)

Carter (Finn Little) is still quiet when he comes down for breakfast, and both he and Beth (Kelly Reilly) say they’ll be home late. Oreana wants to go fishing and out to dinner after school. Beth promises they’ll get through all the recent changes together, like a family. Carter doesn’t tell them about Dwight.

When he leaves, Beth wants reassurance they were also impossible at 19. Rip (Cole Hauseer) replies, “Honey, you’re still impossible.”

Neither Azul nor Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) is thrilled about showing up for work at 10-Petal. Rip informs them that he and Zachariah will be spending the night there since they’re going to be busy branding Angus cattle.

Whoa… Everett (Ed Harris) spent the night with Beulah (Annette Bening)! They laugh about the fun they had last night, but Everett turns down her invitation to spend the night again. He jokes that she and Beth have lots in common. Beulah’s planning a celebration for the ranch’s 190th birthday and asks Everett to be her date. He accepts.

The cowboys are ready as the cattle arrive. If any are sick, Azul will pull them to the side. The ranch hands get busy branding and tagging the new arrivals. Austin (Sterlin English) and Zachariah talk smack while working, but it’s friendly enough.

Beulah and Beth head off in a private plane for a meeting with Zane Nash. Beulah’s more of a “bend with the wind” type, while Beth prefers heavily researching whoever they’re dealing with. When they arrive for the meeting, Beth tells Beulah that they’ll close within 20 minutes.

Carter confesses to Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) that he doesn’t want to be anyone’s anymore. He needs to stand on his own two feet. They relax and drink beer on the boat and as Oreana sunbathes, Carter tells her he loves her. Oreana doesn’t think either of them know what love is.

The cattle are all branded and Austin continues with the smack talk, bragging that he’s better at roping than Azul. Austin throws down a challenge – 10-Petal vs. Dutton, $500 a man.

Beth pitches 10-Petal to Zane (Marlon Young), and Zane wonders what she offers that no one else does. Beth suggests that his customers get an authentic cowboy story with 10-Petal. He’s listening to her pitch and points out he’s never had a Dutton sitting across from him. John was a legend. (Yes, he was!)

Beth comments on the spurs he’s got on display, well aware he’s very connected to them. Zane reveals they were worn by John Wayne in The Searchers. Zane grew up watching movies and loves cowboys and outlaws.

Instead of asking about 10-Petal, he asks about Yellowstone. Beth believes it will be “written about in the history books” and then does a terrific job of turning the attention back to 10-Petal. Beulah takes over, as Beth intended, and fills in her family’s backstory and how the 10-Petal came to be.

Beth assures Zane they’ll walk away if he would rather not grab this opportunity. Beulah reminds him he’ll be working with two of the greatest ranching families in the country’s history.

The roping competition commences back at the ranch. They’re all pretty impressive but Azul and Zachariah are the best team by far.

Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) and Chet (Hart Denton) hang out, and Chet’s fuming about being fired. Later that night, they sit outside the ranch, drinking in the moonlight. Rob-Will confesses he knew Chet would always have his back. They’re like brothers. Chet promises he’ll help Rob-Will do whatever’s necessary to hold onto the ranch. It’s the only family he’s got.

Rob-Will bought an assortment of weapons and hands one to Chet, reminding him no one can take what’s theirs.

Earlier, Joaquin asked Rip for a drink at the house after he’s done for the day and when he pulls up at the house, Chet steps out from the shadows. Joaquin begs him to put the gun down so they can talk. Chet doesn’t and calls Joaquin a backstabbing cheater.

A shot rings out and Rip hears it from the barn.

Chet shoots Joaquin in the hand and is about to shoot him again when Miguel (Berto Colon) takes out Chet with a single shot to the head. Rip pulls up just as it’s over and offers to take Joaquin to get his hand fixed – but not at a hospital.

Rip pulls over and demands to know who put the body on his property. Joaquin explains that Wes was their foreman and Rob-Will’s and Chet’s dealer. He doesn’t know why Rob-Will decided to dump Wes’s body on Dutton Ranch. Joaquin claims Rob-Will’s currently in rehab. (He has no idea his brother checked himself out early.)

Once his brother’s out of rehab, Joaquin’s set up a job for him in Botswana. If he ever returns, Joaquin will kill him. That satisfies Rip, and he finishes the trip to Everett’s. The x-ray confirms Everett can set the bones and stitch him up, but he’ll need a surgeon to make it look good. Joaquin doesn’t seem interested in that; he doesn’t want to answer any questions.

Beulah and Beth relax with drinks at a restaurant after their meeting. They make a good team, and Beulah admits she sees herself in Beth. Beulah confesses she was wrong about Carter and Oreana and asks about Beth’s pregnancy. Beth replies, “He wasn’t a pregnancy.”

Beulah recalls that Rob-Will’s delivery wasn’t easy, and his dad died before he was born. Joaquin came into her life after a ranch hand dropped him off. Now, she’d kill anyone who

Everything’s fine while Beulah talks about Joaquin and Carter both being taken in. But when she adds Jamie Dutton to that list of adopted sons, Beth’s demeanor chills a bit. Beth claims she doesn’t think about him. Beulah wonders what really happened and why no one found him after he disappeared.
