Which begs the question: what is a Nova Award? It’s an honor given out during the Maui Film Festival recognizing “a film artist for their astonishingly original and seamless performances, and the way they consistently infuse each character that they embody with insight, humanity, and wisdom.” And the festival director says this year’s award will be given to Jessica Chastain, the star of Zero Dark Thirty (among other films).

Announcing Chastain’s selection, festival director Rivers said, “Few film artists are as talented and versatile as Jessica Chastain. She has made this clear in the range of characters she has brought to life in her chameleon-like silver screen performances. Jessica is one-of-a-kind and we couldn’t be more pleased to honor her with the 2013 Maui Film Festival Nova Award.”

The 2013 Maui Film Festival will be held at the Wailea Resort in Maui June 12-16th. For more info on the festival, visit mauifilmfestival.com.

Jessica Chastain’s film credits include The Help, Tree of Life, The Debt, Take Shelter, Mama, and Lawless.
