Lionsgate Expresses Their Condolences on Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Death

One of the projects Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman was involved with prior to his death from a drug overdose on Sunday, February 2, 2014 was the final film of The Hunger Games franchise. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 was finished, however Hoffman was not finished filming his scenes from Mockingjay Part 2 when he was found dead in his New York apartment. Hoffman played a supporting role in the series as Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, a small but pivotal role, and following the news of his passing Lionsgate issued a statement expressing their condolences:
 

Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.”

 
And Hoffman’s Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence joined with Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, producers Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, and actress Jennifer Lawrence to issue this statement:
 

Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family.”

 
It doesn’t appear the role will be recast or that the next film will be delayed because of Hoffman’s death. Mockingjay Part 1 is still aiming for a November 2, 2014 theatrical release.
