A New Miss Universe is Crowned

This year’s Miss Universe pageant was held at Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia with Melanie Brown (aka Mel B) and MSNBC Live’s Thomas Roberts as hosts. The 62nd Annual Miss Universe Competition drew in 1 billion viewers worldwide to watch Miss Universe Venezuela Gabriela Isler earn the Miss Universe 2013 crown.

Isler, the seventh winner to emerge from Venezuela, is a 25-year-old college graduate with a marketing degree. She’s into baking and flamenco dancing and hails from the town of Maracay, Venezuela.

This year’s judges included Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Chef Nobu, skater Tara Lipinski, Carol Alt, Anne V, Farouk Shami, Italo Fontana, and Philip Kirkorov.

Additional winners:

– First Runner-Up: Miss Universe Spain, Patricia Yurena Rodriguez will assume the duties of Miss Universe 2013 if the titleholder for some reason cannot fulfill her responsibilities.

– Second Runner-Up: Miss Universe Ecuador, Constanza Baez.

– Rest of Top Five: Miss Universe Brazil, Jakelyne Oliveira and Miss Universe Philippines, Ariella Arida.

– Rest of Top Ten: Miss Universe Great Britain Amy Willerton, Miss Universe India Manasi Moghe, Miss Universe USA Erin Brady, Miss Universe Ukraine Olga Storozhenko, and Miss Universe Dominican Republic Yaritza Reyes.

– Miss Photogenic Universe(TM) Award: Miss Universe Poland, Paulina Krupinska. An expert panel chose the delegate they thought best exemplifies beauty through the lens of a camera. She was awarded a $1,000 cash prize and a gift from pageant sponsor Diamond Nexus.

– Miss Congeniality Universe(TM) Award: Miss Universe China, Jin Ye. This award reflects the respect and admiration of the delegate’s peers who voted for her as the most congenial, charismatic and inspirational participant. She was awarded a $1,000 cash prize and a gift from Diamond Nexus.
