Voting Begins for the 2012 People’s Choice Awards New Categories

CBS wants your input on potential new categories to be included in the 2012 People’s Choice Awards to be held Wednesday, January 11th at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The top vote getters among 15 categories – including Favorite Scene Stealer, Favorite Canceled Series, and Album of the Year – will be added to the awards show.

Share your opinion on which categories should be a part of next year’s People’s Choice Awards at www.PeoplesChoice.com/pca/categories. And if you don’t like any of the 15 categories presented, you can always write in your own choice.

“I love producing the People’s Choice Awards and I am so glad to be back for the 2012 show,” stated executive producer Mark Burnett. “I’m proud of the buzz-worthy moments we created for this year’s Emmy Awards and speak on behalf of our entire production team when I say how much we are looking forward to taking on the PCAs once again.”

“Our categories evolve each year to reflect the constantly changing popular culture,” said Fred Nelson, President of People’s Choice.  “In 1977, for example, Carol Burnett triumphed over Donny & Marie and The Captain & Tennille for Favorite TV Variety Show.  You can’t get more ’70s than that.  While in 2008, the third installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise beat out The Bourne Ultimatum and Spider-Man 3 for Favorite Movie Threequel, a category we created specifically for that year. We’re letting the fans help us choose new categories for 2012; after all, their passion for entertainment is the heart and soul of the People’s Choice Awards.”
