CBS Films and Lionsgate just unveiled the teaser trailer for American Assassin, an action drama based on Vince Flynn’s novel. Directed by Michael Cuesta, American Assassin was adapted for the screen by Stephen Schiff, Michael Finch, Edward Zwick, and Marshall Herskovitz. Teen Wolf‘s Dylan O’Brien stars along with Sanaa Lathan, Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, Shiva Negar, and Scott Adkins. American Assassin‘s set to open in theaters on September 15, 2017.

The Plot: American Assassin follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (O’Brien) a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.

Dylan O’Brien is a talented young man with great acting potential who has come a long way in a short period of time. There was concern expressed at the time of his casting and having seen the trailer, not without foundation. O’Brien is grossly miscast and simply lacks any creditability in the role, nothing wrong with his acting, but he looks all wrong. His long-haired, scruffy appearance in an attempt to make him ‘tougher’ is ridiculous. The studio obviously have their doubts and a test screening of the movie on the 13th April to get audience feedback, leaves time for re-shoots, rewrites before a Fall release and perhaps even a scenario where the movie goes straight to Bluray and DVD.

I was pretty confused by this nonsensical comment, but your profile leaves it clear you’re a Tyler Hoechlin fan envious of O’Brien. Ah, now I get it.

      Stay jealous!
