Apple Original Films’ The Beanie Bubble explores the true story behind the toy craze that took over the world in the late 1990s. The trailer introduces the key players, including Ty Warner – the man who took credit for creating the cute little stuffed animals.
Zach Galifianakis (Baskets) stars as Ty Warner. The cast also includes Elizabeth Banks (Cocaine Bear), Sarah Snook (Succession), and Geraldine Viswanathan (Broken Hearts Gallery).
Per Apple Original Films: “Why did the world suddenly treat stuffed animals like gold? Ty Warner was a frustrated toy salesman until his collaboration with three women grew his masterstroke of an idea into the biggest toy craze in history. The Beanie Bubble is an inventive story about what and who we value, and the unsung heroes whose names didn’t appear on the heart-shaped tag.”
Married duo Emmy Award nominee Kristin Gore (Saturday Night Live, Futurama) and Grammy Award-winning lead singer of OK Go Damian Kulash directed from a screenplay by Gore. The film’s based on the book The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute.
Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Karen Lunder served as producers, with Galifianakis and Douglas S. Jones executive producing.
The Beanie Bubble will have a limited release in theaters on July 21, 2023 followed by a release on Apple TV+ on July 28.
