Netflix is diving back into the post-apocalyptic world of 2018’s Bird Box with the spinoff Bird Box Barcelona. This new installment takes place in the titular city and follows different characters within the same universe as the original film. Fans can expect a similar setup but with unique storylines and perspectives.
Bird Box followed Oscar winner Sandra Bullock’s character as she struggled to keep her family safe in a world gone mad. Goya award winner Mario Casas (No matarás) takes on the starring role in the spinoff. The cast includes Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Diego Calva, and Patrick Criado. In addition, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo De Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia also star.
Álex Pastor and David Pastor wrote the screenplay and co-directed. The post-apocalyptic thriller was produced by Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, Núria Valls, Adrián Guerra, Josh Malerman and Ryan Lewis. Ainsley Davies and Brian Williams served as executive producers.
Bird Box Barcelona premieres on July 14, 2023.
