First Look: ‘Bumblebee’ Shows Off a Photo with Hailee Steinfeld

Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first photo from the Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee. The first official photo from the action film based on the transforming robots toys shows Bumblebee, a yellow Volkswagen Bug, with the film’s star, Hailee Steinfeld (the Pitch Perfect films, Edge of Seventeen).

The latest excursion into the world of Transformers was directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline) from a script by Christina Hodson (Unforgettable, Shut In). The 2018 action drama was produced by Transformers veterans Michael Bay and Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Mark Vahradian, and Chris Brigham executive produce.

In addition to the yellow bug and Hailee Steinfeld, the cast includes Pamela Adlon (Better Things, Louie), John Cena (Daddy’s Home 2, Trainwreck), Stephen Schneider (Broad City, You’re the Worst), Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Brigsby Bear), Jason Drucker (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, Every Witch Way), Kenneth Choi (American Crime Story, The Last Man on Earth), Ricardo Hoyos (Degrassi: Next Class, The Belko Experiment), Abby Quinn (Landline, The Sisterhood of Night), Rachel Crow (Deidra and Laney Rob a Train, The X Factor), and Grace Dzienny (Zoo, Chasing Life).

The fifth film of the Transformers franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight, opened on June 21, 2017. Transformers: The Last Knight, directed by Michael Bay, had a $44 million opening weekend and grossed $605 million before exiting theaters. Paramount’s opting for a winter release for Bumblebee, with the spinoff set to be released in theaters on December 21, 2018.

The Plot: On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
