‘Cargo’ Trailer: Martin Freeman Deals with the Zombie Apocalypse

Netflix debuted the official trailer for Cargo, a dramatic thriller set during a zombie apocalypse. Unlike most zombie films and TV shows, Cargo follows Martin Freeman’s character as he tries to protect his baby daughter after he’s bitten by a zombie. With the clock ticking down, he must find someone to take care of his young daughter once he’s no longer alive to do so.

Cargo is based on a short film of the same name released in 2013. That film was nominated for a Best Editing in a Short Film award from the Australian Screen Editors. The Cargo short film was also a finalist at the 2013 Tropfest Australia. The feature-length adaptation will premiere at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival before launching on Netflix on May 18th.

Martin Freeman (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Sherlock, Fargo) leads the cast which includes Natasha Wanganeen (Rabbit-Proof Fence, Through My Eyes) and David Gulpilil (The Proposition, Crocodile Dundee). The directing team behind the viral short video – Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke – co-directed the feature film. Yolanda Ramke wrote the short film and the feature film.

Kristina Ceyton, Russell Ackerman, Samantha Jennings, Mark Patterson, and John Schoenfelder served as producers. Geoffrey Simpson was the director of photography, and Dany Cooper and Sean Lahiff edited the horror/thriller which was shot in South Australia.

The Plot: From the producer of The Babadook, and starring Martin Freeman, comes Cargo. Based on the viral short film, this is the story of a man and his infant daughter who are stranded in the middle of a zombie apocalypse in rural Australia. And when he becomes infected, the countdown begins for him to find her protection before he changes forever.
