‘Conclave’ Trailer: Ralph Fiennes Oversees a Battle for the Papacy

It’s up to Ralph Fiennes as Cardinal Lawrence to guide the process for selecting a new Pope in Conclave, directed by Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front). The trailer opens with the news the Pope has died, and Cardinal Lawrence quickly learns that everyone, including the higher-ups in the church, has secrets.

In addition to Ralph Fiennes, Conclave stars Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, and Carlos Diehz. The cast also includes Merab Ninidze, Thomas Loibl, Sergio Castellitto, and Isabella Rossellini.

Conclave follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting a new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope,” reads Focus Features’ synopsis. “Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the center of a conspiracy and discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of The Church.”

Based on Robert Harris’ bestseller and adapted by Peter Straughan, Conclave will open in select theaters on November 1, 2024. The drama expands on November 8th.
