‘Despicable Me 4’ Trailer Introduces the Mega Minions

Illumination’s Despicable Me 4 isn’t settling for regular weirdo minions. Instead, the strange little yellow dudes are getting pumped up with a super-serum that transforms them into Mega Minions.

Steve Carell returns to the franchise as Gru, Kristen Wiig’s back as Lucy, and Miranda Cosgrove returns as Margo. Dana Gaier voices Edith, Madison Polan is Agnes, Steve Coogan is Silas Ramsbottom, and Pierre Coffin handles the voices of the minions. Will Ferrell and Sofia Vergara join the fun as Maxime Le Mal and Valentina. Joey King (Bullet Train), Stephen Colbert (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), and Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live) also voice new characters.

The animated action-comedy is directed by two-time Oscar nominee Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets) from a screenplay by Emmy winner Mike White (White Lotus) and Ken Daurio. Daurio’s written every Despicable Me film.

“Following the 2022 summer blockbuster phenomenon of Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, which earned almost $1 billion worldwide, the biggest global animated franchise in history now begins a new chapter as Gru and Lucy and their girls — Margo, Edith, and Agnes — welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad,” reads Illumination’s synopsis. “Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina, and the family is forced to go on the run.”

Illumination’s CEO and founder Chris Meledandri and Brett Hoffman produce, with Patrick Delage co-directing.

Despicable Me 4 opens in theaters on July 3, 2024.
