A first date turns into a life-or-death situation in Drop, a new horror film from Happy Death Day helmer Christopher Landon. The trailer shows a single mom (Meghann Fahy, The White Lotus) taking a chance on a blind date (1923‘s Brandon Sklenar), and then almost immediately regretting the decision when she receives a series of threatening texts.
Violett Beane, Jacob Robinson, and Ed Weeks also star, along with Reed Diamond, Gabrielle Ryan, Jeffery Self, and Travis Nelson.
“Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, breakout star of White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone,” reads Universal Pictures’ synopsis. “She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach (Truth or Dare) wrote the thriller, and Blumhouse’s Jason Blum produces along with Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller.
Universal Pictures will release Drop in theaters on April 11, 2025.
