‘Dumplin’ Trailer: Jennifer Aniston’s Serious About Beauty Pageants

Netflix’s Dumplin’ starring Jennifer Aniston has just released its first full trailer. The first look at the comedy/drama finds Aniston playing Rosie, a former beauty queen who can’t seem to let go of her pageant days. Her teen daughter, Willowdean (played by Danielle Macdonald), doesn’t have the typical beauty pageant body and Rosie’s shocked when she decides to enter the local pageant. Obviously there’s more to the story than that, and the trailer also reveals Willowdean (nicknamed Dumplin’ by her mom) becomes an inspiration to other larger girls.

In addition to Jennifer Aniston (We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses) and Danielle Macdonald (Bird Box, Patti Cake$), the cast includes Odeya Rush (Lady Bird, Goosebumps), Dove Cameron (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Liv and Maddie, Descendants), and Harold Perrineau (Claws, Lost). Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip, The Proposal) directed the film and Kristin Hahn adapted Julie Murphy’s bestselling novel for the screen.

Dumplin’ is produced by Kristin Hahn, Michael Costigan (American Gangster, Brokeback Mountain), Mohamed AlRafi (Above Suspicion, Lying and Stealing), and Trish Hofmann (Gringo, Get On Up). Jennifer Aniston and Danny Nozell served as executive producers. The behind the scenes team includes director of photography Elliot Davis, editor Emma E. Hickox, production designer Elizabeth J. Jones, and costume designer Bina Daigeler, with music by Jake Monaco.

Netflix is planning to release Dumplin’ in select theaters and on the streaming service on December 7, 2018. The Dumplin’ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack with songs from Dolly Parton and Sia will hit stores on November 30th.

The Dumplin’ Plot:

Dumplin’ (Danielle Macdonald) is the plus-size, teenage daughter of a former beauty queen (Jennifer Aniston), who signs up for her mom’s pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow her footsteps, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town.
