‘Happy Death Day 2U’ Trailer and Poster: “Death Makes a Killer Comeback”

Universal Pictures just released the official trailer for the upcoming horror sequel, Happy Death Day 2U. The 2019 sequel to 2017’s Happy Death Day has Christopher Landon back as director and Jessica Rothe reprising her role as Tree Gelbman.

In addition to Jessica Rothe (Forever My Girl), the sequel’s cast features returning Happy Death Day actors Israel Broussard (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) as Carter Davis, Ruby Modine (Shameless) as Lori Spengler, Rachel Matthews (Ms. White Light) as Danielle Bouseman, Caleb Spillyards (The Astronaut Wives Club) as Tim Bauer, and Charles Aitken (The Knick) as Gregory Butler. Sarah Yarkin, Steve Zissis, and Suraj Sharma also star in the horror sequel.

Director Landon’s credits also include 2015’s Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, 2014’s Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, and 2010’s Burning Palms.

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum produces and Angela Mancuso, John Baldecchi, and Samson Mucke executive produce. The behind the scenes team includes director of photography Toby Oliver, editor Ben Baudhuin, production designer Bill Boes, and costume designer Whitney Anne Adams.

The original Happy Death Day opened on October 6, 2017 and rang up $26 million domestically over its first weekend in theaters. The PG-13 horror movie went on to gross $122 million during its theatrical run. (Not bad for a film with a $5 million budget.)

Universal Pictures apparently believes the sequel will make the perfect romantic date night outing, setting a February 14, 2019 release date for the follow-up.

The Happy Death Day 2U Plot:

Jessica Rothe leads the returning cast of Happy Death Day 2U, the follow-up to Blumhouse’s (Split, Get Out, The Purge series) surprise 2017 smash hit of riveting, repeating twists and comic turns. This time, our hero Tree (Rothe) discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.
