‘Hell of a Summer’ Trailer: Finn Wolfhard Heads to Camp

Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things fame stars in and co-directs the horror-comedy Hell of a Summer, set in a familiar location.…summer camp. Hopefully this outing can carve out its own unique niche in the well-trodden slasher film subgenre. The trailer’s heavy on comedy and light on horror, but it does offer a sampling of gore, so there’s that.

Wolfhard and Billy Bryk co-wrote, co-direct, and are part of the ensemble cast that includes Fred Hechinger, Abby Quinn, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Pardis Saremi, Rosebud Baker, and Adam Pally.

Hell of a Summer follows 24-year-old camp counselor Jason Hochberg (Hechinger), who arrives at Camp Pineway thinking his biggest problem is that he feels out of touch with his teenage co-workers,” reads Neon’s synopsis. “What he doesn’t know is that a masked killer is lurking on the campgrounds, brutally picking counselors off one by one.”

The slasher film had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Neon’s set an April 18, 2025 theatrical release.
