‘Heretic’ Final Trailer: Hugh Grant’s Sinister Game Forces a Deadly Choice

Hugh Grant as the mysterious Mr. Reed asks his two young visitors to make a choice in A24’s final Heretic trailer. Will they pick the door labeled “Belief” or “Disbelief?” Which will lead to their escape from his creepy presence?

In addition to Hugh Grant, the horror film stars Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and Chloe East (The Fabelmans). Thatcher and East play “two young missionaries are forced to prove their faith when they knock on the wrong door and are greeted by a diabolical Mr. Reed (Grant), becoming ensnared in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse.”

Discussing the project’s appeal, Grant said, “I found Heretic to be daring, not just because it questions a lot of things that many people hold sacred, but for the fact that it’s set in one house over the course of one long night and features a lot of talking — hardly normal practice for a horror film.”

Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place) wrote the screenplay and directed. “When you sit in a room and try to think of scary ideas for a movie, for us there’s nothing more terrifying than death,” said Woods. “All horror movies in one way or another are about death — it’s the thing we fear most in life, and we use religion to try and make sense of what happens when we die so we can feel safe. But when we delve too deep into the subject, sometimes we’re left feeling less safe.”

A24 is releasing Heretic in theaters on November 8, 2024.
