The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping Trailer Shows Young Haymitch and Star-Studded Cast

May the odds be ever in your favor… Lionsgate’s released the official trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, providing the first real look at younger versions of Haymitch Abernathy, Effie Trinket, President Snow, Plutarch Heavensbee, and Caesar Flickerman. 

Joseph Zada stars as Haymitch, Elle Fanning is Effie, Ralph Fiennes is President Snow, Jesse Plemons is Plutarch, and Kieran Culkin is Caesar. Glenn Close plays Drusilla Sickle, Mckenna Grace is Maysilee Donner, Maya Hawke is Wiress, Whitney Peak is Lenore Dove Baird, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays Beetee Latier.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping revisits the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell,” reads Lionsgate’s synopsis.

Francis Lawrence, director of both Mockingjay films as well as Catching Fire and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, returns to helm Sunrise on the Reaping. Billy Ray adapted Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel, published on March 18, 2025. Producers include Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Francis Lawrence.
