Emma Stone, hot off her Best Actress Oscar-winning performance in Poor Things, reunites with that film’s writer/director Yorgos Lanthimos for Kinds of Kindness. The first teaser trailer doesn’t give away much of the plot, instead showing off clips of a fast car, a body being dragged in a hallway, a slap, a dance, and a German Shepherd. The only dialogue is a voice-over by Stone saying, “This is it. The moment of truth. Isn’t it wonderful?”
Lanthimos’ latest film also features Poor Things‘ Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. Jesse Plemons, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer also star.
“Kinds of Kindness is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader,” reads Searchlight Pictures’ synopsis.
Lanthimos co-wrote the screenplay with Efthimis Filippou and serves as a producer along with Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, and Kasia Malipan.
Kinds of Kindness will open in theaters on June 21, 2024.
