Focus Features has released a teaser trailer and new poster for Lisa Frankenstein, a horror comedy the studio describes as a “coming of rage story.” The twisted take on the classic Frankenstein tale centers on a lonely girl who goes to extraordinary lengths to connect with the perfect guy.
Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) stars as the teenager longing to hook up with her crush, played by Cole Sprouse (Riverdale). The cast also includes Liza Soberano (Make It With You), Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things), and Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher). Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) dives back into the horror genre with Lisa Frankenstein, and Zelda Williams (daughter of Robin Williams) makes her feature film directorial debut with the project.
Screenwriter Cody and Mason Novick produce, and Jeffrey Lambert executive produces.
“A coming of RAGE love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse,” reads Focus Features’ synopsis. “After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.”
Focus Features is hoping couples will make a screening of Lisa Frankenstein their early Valentine’s Day date night destination with a February 9, 2024 release date.
