Disney’s Moana trailer has action, songs, and a wig on Dwayne Johnson that has become the focus of YouTube’s comment section. The official trailer arrived along with a behind-the-scenes featurette (embedded below) and the final poster.
The original blockbuster animated film was released in November 2016. The live-action version opens in theaters on July 10, 2026.
The film stars Catherine Lagaʻaia in the titular role and Dwayne Johnson, reprising his role as demigod Maui. John Tui plays Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams plays Moana’s mother, Sina; and Rena Owen plays Moana’s Gramma Tala.
Disney’s synopsis reads, “In Moana, Disney’s live-action reimagining of the beloved Oscar-nominated animated adventure, Moana (Lagaʻaia) answers the Ocean’s call and, for the first time, voyages beyond the reef of her island of Motunui with the infamous demigod Maui (Johnson) on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.”

Emmy and Tony Award winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton) directs, and Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda serve as producers. Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auliʻi Cravalho (the original voice of Moana) executive produce.
Moana features original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, and Mark Mancina. Mancina composed the score.
