‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ Teaser Reveals a February Premiere Date

Idris Elba stares into the camera as a voiceover says “Something’s coming…” in the 20-second teaser for Luther: The Fallen Sun. The teaser gives nothing away while confirming the film, a continuation of the critically acclaimed crime series, will open in select theaters in February 2023.

Following its theatrical release on February 24th, Luther: The Fallen Sun will be available to stream on Netflix on March 10th.

In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, Idris Elba said he wanted the film to amplify what they’ve done on the show. He also discussed where we pick up with Luther as the movie begins.

“He’s done so much to bend the law in order to catch the bad guys that he’s ended up in jail,” explained Elba. “That’s where we start the story. This old case that didn’t really ever get solved creeps up back into his life. And John can’t help but find a way to get involved. This bad guy is out there, and he has to go out and get him.”

Luther: The Fallen Sun stars Elba, Dermot Crowley reprising his role as Martin Schenk, two-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), and Emmy nominee Andy Serkis (Little Dorrit). Emmy nominee Jamie Payne (The Alienist) directs from a screenplay by Luther series creator Neil Cross. Elba, Cross, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready produce. Dan Finlay, Brendan Ferguson, Miki Emmerich, Kris Thykier, and Priscilla Parish serve as executive producers.
