Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Trailer Released

Lifelong Narnia fan Greta Gerwig adapted C. S. Lewis’ The Magician’s Nephew, and Netflix’s official trailer shows director Gerwig didn’t skimp on the special effects or hold back on the color palette. There’s a real ’60s psychedelic vibe, which is only emphasized by the use of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.”

The 2027 theatrical release stars David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough, and Susan Wokoma.

“I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life. I didn’t know that I would grow up to make films, but a universe built out of music is an idea that has always lived in my heart,” said Gerwig, commenting on Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. “It is the honor of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being. Because of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, I believed in magic and hidden worlds and adventure. I believed that anywhere could be enchanted and that anyone could be swept up into an epic. That wonder and awe was available to everyone, even ordinary people like me…It transformed me.”

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will open in theaters and IMAX on February 12, 2027.

Gerwig, Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, and Vincent Sieber-Smith serve as producers. Executive producers include Patricia Whitcher, Racheline Benveniste, Christine Crais, Douglas Gresham, and Melvin Adams. Gerwig’s behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Seamus McGarvey, production designer James Chinlund, visual effects supervisor Paul Franklin, set decorator Lee Sandales, and editors Andrew Weisblum, Nick Houy, and Wyatt Smith. Gerwig reunites with Barbie‘s Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt for the score.
