Writer/director Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Venice International Film Festival and will open in limited release on November 18, 2016 followed by a wide release on December 9th. Focus Features just released a teaser trailer for the film which is currently sitting at 77% fresh on RottenTomatoes.

Although it snagged the Grand Jury Prize, it didn’t win over every critic, with Time Magazine’s Stephanie Zacharek saying, “You could just dub it a ‘stylish exercise’ and call it a day.” On the other hand, Variety’s Owen Gleiberman called it a winner, describing it as an “ambitious high-wire noir thriller with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal in an explosive tale of love, violence, and revenge.” Even with mixed reviews, there’s buzz surrounding both Adams’ and Gyllenhaal’s performances and both are likely to be frequently mentioned during awards season.

Nocturnal Animals is based on the book Tony and Susan by Austin Wright. Ford (A Single Man) adapted it for the screen.

The Plot: From writer/director Tom Ford comes a haunting romantic thriller of shocking intimacy and gripping tension that explores the thin lines between love and cruelty and revenge and redemption. Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves in Nocturnal Animals.
