Trailers don’t often have genuine jumpscares, but Universal Pictures’ Other Mommy pulls it off. And that scene under the table is absolutely creepy.
Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) pulls double duty as a normal mom and the titular character. Jay Duplass (Transparent) and Arabella Olivia Clark (The Housemaid). Dichen Lachman (Severance), Arian Moayed (Succession), and Karen Allen (Indiana Jones films) also star.
The synopsis from Universal Pictures reads, “From producer James Wan, one of the most influential architects of modern horror, and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, the studio behind Backrooms and Obsession, comes a terrifying trip from breakout genre director Rob Savage into the darkening world of a young girl, Bela, who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother.”
The horror film’s based on Josh Malerman’s bestseller Incidents Around the House. Rob Savage (The Boogeyman) directs and WGA award winner Nathan Elston (Succession) wrote the screenplay. James Wan serves as producer, with Malerman, Savage, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Ryan Lewis executive producing.
Other Mommy opens in theaters on October 9, 2026.
