The first trailer’s arrived for the horror film Ready or Not starring Samara Weaving as a new bride forced into trying to survive a deadly game of hide and seek on her wedding night. Directed by Devil’s Due‘s Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Fox Searchlight’s Ready or Not is heading to theaters on August 23, 2019.
In addition to Samara Weaving Samara Weaving (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Picnic at Hanging Rock), the cast includes Adam Brody (Chips, Sleeping with Other People), Mark O’Brien (Arrival, Halt and Catch Fire), Henry Czerny (Sharp Objects, The A-Team), and Andie MacDowell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Sex, Lies, and Videotape). Guy Busick (Urge) and Ryan Murphy (Minutes Past Midnight) wrote the screenplay.
Chad Villella, Tracey Nyberg, and Tara Farney executive produced, with Tripp Vinson (The Prodigy, Exorcism of Emily Rose), James Vanderbilt (The House with a Clock in Its Walls, Zodiac), Bradley Fischer, and William Sherak producing.
Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin’s behind the scenes team includes director of photography Brett Jutkiewicz, editor Terel Gibson, production designer Andrew M. Stearn, and costume designer Avery Plewes.
“Ready or Not is our kind of horror film. With its sly sense of humor this is a genre movie that will leave you terrified, but with a smile on your face, as you leave the theater,” explained Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents of Production, Film and Television Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum.
The MPAA’s given the horror mystery an R rating for violence, bloody images, language throughout, and some drug use.
“Ready or Not follows a young bride (Samara Weaving) as she joins her new husband’s (Mark O’Brien) rich, eccentric family (Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, Andie MacDowell) in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival.”
