20th Century Studios’ teaser trailer for The Creator begins by immediately explaining how the world as it exists in the story came to be. Artificial intelligence that had been created to protect humanity detonated a nuclear warhead in Los Angeles. For the past 10 years since that apocalyptic event, humans have battled AI to survive.
Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla, Monsters), The Creator stars John David Washington (Tenet), Gemma Chan (Eternals), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Sturgill Simpson (Dog), Oscar winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya), and newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles.
Gareth Edwards and Chris Weitz wrote the screenplay. Edwards, Kiri Hart, Jim Spencer, and Arnon Milchan produce, with Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Nick Meyer, and Zev Foreman executive producing.
The two-minute teaser for the post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller was accompanied by a poster and photos. The Creator will open in theaters on September 29, 2023.
The Plot:
Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory… only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child.
