20th Century Fox has just released a short teaser video from the sci-fi thriller, The Darkest Minds. The film is based on Alexandra Bracken’s bestselling young adult novel and was adapted for the screen by Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines, Good Behavior). Oscar nominee Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2) directed the adaptation, with Shawn Levy and Dan Levine serving as producers.
The cast is led by Amandla Stenberg (Everything, Everything) as Ruby and includes Harris Dickinson (Trust, Beach Rats) as Liam, Mandy Moore (This Is Us, 47 Meters Down) as Cate, Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi) as Lady Jane, Miya Cech as Zu, Skylan Brooks (The Get Down) as Chubs, Patrick Gibson (The White Princess) as Clancy, and Bradley Whitford (Get Out).
Author Bracken has confirmed The Darkest Minds will cover just the first novel in her three-book series. The other books in the trilogy are Never Fade and In the Afterlight. A fourth book, Through the Dark, consists of three novellas set in The Darkest Minds world: “In Time,” “Sparks Rise,” and “Beyond the Night.”
20th Century Fox is set to release The Darkest Minds in theaters on August 3, 2018.
The Plot: When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.
