For fans of the book who wondered why The Giver isn’t in black and white, this new featurette answers that question. The film, coming to theaters on August 15, 2014, shows off new footage that is, in fact, in black and white. However, precisely what will wind up in color and what will be in black and white when the film hits theaters is a little ambiguous, as scenes from the first color trailer are now in black and white in this new video.

The Plot:
