‘The Iron Lady’ Preview: Trailer, Cast, and Plot

Academy Award winner Meryl Streep transforms into Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, directed by Phyllida Lloyd. The film’s targeting a December 30, 2011 theatrical release and is sure to be mentioned during awards season.

In addition to Meryl Streep, the cast includes Jim Broadbent as Denis Thatcher, Harry Lloyd as Young Denis Thatcher, Anthony Head as Geoffrey Howe, Richard E Grant as Michael Heseltine, and Roger Allam as Gordon Reece. Susan Brown plays June, Olivia Colman is Carol, Nick Dunning is James Prior, Julian Wadham is Francis Pym, and Alexandra Roach plays Young Margaret Thatcher.

Official Synopsis: The Iron Lady is a surprising and intimate portrait of Margaret Thatcher (Meryl Streep), the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century’s most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world.
