Hot off its festival screenings and a Golden Lion win at the Venice Film Festival, Fox Searchlight has released a restricted trailer for The Shape of Water. Written, directed, and produced by Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water currently stands at 98% fresh (39 positive, 1 negative reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes. RogerEbert.com’s critic calls it “one of del Toro’s deepest, most complex, most rewarding, and flat-out beautiful films” while BBC says it’s one of the “most delightful films of the year.”

The cast includes Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Doug Jones. Jones once again transforms into creature mode to play the aquatic man at the heart of the drama. Jones’ previously collaborations with Guillermo del Toro include Crimson Peak, Hellboy, and Pan’s Labyrinth.

Fox Searchlight has set a December 8, 2017 theatrical release.

The Plot: From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes The Shape of Water – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.
